as a representation of this period. These images may still be available

Artist
Statement 2003
Having trained in graphic design and with a distinctly minimalist view
on all things art related it wasn't until summer 2000 that I decided to
put these ideas into paint, and see how I could develop my design training
back into fine art images.
With this in mind I went back to basics, relearning colour mixing, composition
etc Then finding out which subjects I could best apply my ideas to and
more importantly which subjects I would enjoy painting.
In painting my images I like to experiment with running water and the
various effects and glazes that this then produces. I build up layer upon
layer of colour then wash and scratch out and continue with this process
until I am happy with a completed image. I intend to continue and develop
these ideas further for example painting on location, perhaps by the side
of a waterfall using the force of the waterfall in spate to help complete
the image.
I am now working on three main projects that I hope to find
gallery space for in the near future. As they are confirmed I shall post
them on this website - with individual websites set up to show them in
full to follow:
- Project One - Waterfalls - a continuation of the 30"x20"
images featured in gallery one.
- Project Two - A North West Survey - inspired by Ordanance Survey
maps, dealing with colour and texture.
- Project Three - Following Ruskin / Following Turner - a series of
smaller images charting the movements of the two men through the North
West of England.
